Safenet Services, a local non-profit organization serving individuals and families healing from the consequences of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking, will be holding their annual Walk A Mile In Their Shoes event this April, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
This year, Safenet is taking a different approach to their annual Walk A Mile In Their Shoes event. Instead of the usual awareness walk, as they have done in recent years, Safenet will be holding a 5K and FREE Fun Run / Awareness Walk to raise crucial funds, bring awareness to, and show support for survivors of sexual assault in both Rogers and Mayes counties.
This fundraiser is driven by the urge to spread awareness for sexual assault in Rogers and Mayes counties. According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health, it is estimated that 17% of women and 3% of men, nationally, have been victims of sexual violence in their lifetime. In Oklahoma, the rate of rape and attempted rape among females reported to law enforcement has been 35-45% higher than the U.S. rate for the past decade.
The 5k and Fun Run will take place at Whitaker Park in Pryor, OK, located at the corner of Coo-Y-Yah St. and Park St. on April 5, 2025, starting at 9 a.m. Registration for runners and volunteers is now open.
