The name of this boutique wellness studio shows what clients have to gain – Strength of Mind and Body.

With offerings in Pilates, fitness, yoga and wellness, owner Teresa McIlroy provides a place of quiet retreat where clients can come to de-stress from daily life and focus on taking care of themselves, both mind and body.

“My passion in life has been to help people live fully,” explains Teresa, a licensed physical therapist, pilates instructor and wellness coach. “From the young to the elderly, athletes to post rehab, and anyone in between, my focus is on the individual, not a set program.”

Classes include pilates mat, three levels of pilates reformer, and yoga mat. Personal training, partner appointments, wellness coaching and nutrition coaching are also available. Class size, limited to five for pilates and ten for yoga, allows the instructor to pay attention to each individual’s posture, alignment and breathing, without the distraction of loud music and television screens.

A new piece of equipment, the Core Align, is designed for over 200 exercises for individual tailoring. This machine is popular in numerous metropolitan areas, but it is just receiving its Tulsa introduction through Strength of Mind and Body.

Partner sessions are popular for both male and female golf and tennis partners who want to keep in sync, as well as friends who want to encourage each other or split the cost of a session.
Wellness coaching is a concept that addresses mental and physical health together. For anyone who has said over and over, “I am going to start my diet next week,” or “One of these day I will slow down and take care of myself,” wellness coaching could be a way of turning wishful thinking into major accomplishments.

Another new service that Teresa is eager to introduce to clients is nutrition consultation. This one-on-one personalized consultation with a registered dietician can be a lifesaver, whether it is for weight management or improved nutrition status in general. A special pantry makeover includes a home visit from the dietician to evaluate food choices in the pantry, refrigerator and freezer. It also includes a healthier makeover of the client’s three favorite recipes.
Beth Cassody, licensed physical therapist assistant, worked with Teresa many years ago and came to Strength of Mind and Body as a client. Now she works side by side with Teresa again to help clients meet their goals. Teresa believes their background in physical therapy gives clients a whole lot more than any traditional gym. “We can gear exercise for specific sports, and even work with sports injuries,” she says.

Many of her clients have come after surgeries and all their insurance-covered therapy was exhausted. Even though sessions are not covered by insurance, clients can still get the exercise treatment they need.

It is not unusual for Teresa to hear words of thanks from clients with inflammatory conditions who thought they would never again be able to work in their gardens, ride their bikes or simply hold their grandchildren. “We help clients do the things they want to do for as long as they want. They can age very gracefully,” she says.

Future plans call for a women’s health program with classes in pre- and post-natal care and osteoporosis prevention. To schedule a tour and get to know the staff, call Strength of Mind and Body, located in Berkshire Plaza at the corner of San Antonio and Eucalyptus in Broken Arrow.
