What do rock and roll legend Leon Russell and S. E. Hinton, author of The Outsiders, have in common? They are both members of the Tulsa Will Rogers High School Hall of Fame. They’ll be joined by a new class of Hall of Fame inductees during long-awaited ceremonies this month.

Over 200 sixth grade students from Tulsa’s Will Rogers Middle School visited the Outsiders House and Museum in a one-of-a-kind immersive learning experience. The outing was part of their English class, along with reading the book, The Outsiders, watching the movie of the same title, and discussing it all in class. The Outsiders, first published in 1967, was written by Will Rogers High School alumna, S. E. Hinton, and the Outsiders House was the central location for filming the iconic motion picture, The Outsiders. The house was restored to the way it looked during filming, and the museum added, by owner Danny O’Connor.

Will Rogers High School will be adding a new class of 2019 Hall of Fame inductees during ceremonies March 29. Included in the 2019 class are Richard Meydag, R. David Bynum, Art Fleak, Pat Kelley and Sherryl Meliott McGuire. This group of alumni has been selected by the WRHS Community Foundation for their outstanding excellence in their respective career fields and will be honored with a display in the hallways of the school.
